Describe Your Fear

When I was 7 years old (11 years ago) I was EXTREMELY afraid of death. At night time I would get panic attacks and breathing heavily. My mom didn't understand this until I told her I was afraid of dying, of falling asleep and never waking up again. She would hold me tight and sleep with me but that would work. I would only fall asleep when I was too tired from crying which took from about 2 to 3 hours. The next day I would wake up and think how silly it was of me to be afraid of death, but when night time arrived it was the same story over and over again.

How I'm Coping

After about a month of this happening I was very tired of feeling afraid at night. What I did was, every day when I wasn't feeling afraid I would reassure myself that this life is too beautiful to go through it being afraid of something I don't know. Through out the entire day I would say this reaffirmation in my head. When night time came I was still afraid but before I went to bed I thought of all the things that waited for me in the morning. I thought of the green trees and the birds singing, I thought of the blue sky and clouds, I thought of rain and wind. These thoughts gave me courage to go to sleep knowing that I was going to see and feel these wonders once again.

Even until today, at 18 years old, I have to reaffirm myself of the beauty of life, and to live every moment like it's my last. I am not sure when I am going to die so every day I live it like it's my last, this has lead me to live a more fruitful life. I have stopped lying and I forgive more often. I don't argue and never go to sleep with negative emotions since I do not know if I will wake up the next morning. I appreciate the beauty of this world, every day is a gift and every moment given to me in this life is worth more than anything, so I take the most I can out of it.

Advice

  • Live like there is no tomorrow. Today is the only day there is and nothing else. We don't know what the future might bring so live the present to the fullest. Tell the people you love that you love them every chance you get because it might be the last one. Look around at this beautiful world and all of it's beautiful things, don't let anything hold you back from being who you want to be. If you ever doubt yourself and fear death once more know that there is always a tomorrow and that you will live to see it, and it will come true.
